"Make music, he wrote, string your thoughts like water beads on kite thread, and let the line in your hands shiver in winds you are unafraid to call mysteries."

Murray Pura, in "The Poets of Windhover Marsh"

So I've been thinking ...

"I can't NOT write," people say, and I think  - really?  I can.  I can knit and read and play computer games until small coloured balls dance behind my eyes as I'm trying to go to sleep ...and then there's cooking and cleaning and laundry and visiting my mother and Being a Listening Ear - I could go for DAYS without writing. Weeks, even.

And yet I said that very thing to someone this morning - "I can't not write."

And now I feel a need to clarify.  I CAN not write - I just can't ignore the writing for too many days without wanting to break things or tease the dog or steal candy from babies.  Not writing makes me cranky, even when I don't recognize the connection between the two.
